Item details

From the 1830s Uranium was added to decorative glass for its fluorescent glow when exposed to UV light. James Powell’s Whitefriars glass company was one of the first to market glowing glass. Uranium glass was once made into household items but fell out of fashion due to the discovery of radiation poisoning and the scarcity of uranium during the Cold War.
