A very warm welcome to Elflock Woolworks at Waney Grain. I'm Karen and I'm a free-style experimental knitter working with luxurious yarns that feel silky-soft against the skin.My husband, Nick, is a woodturner and he is the Waney Grain side of this Folksy shop.
I love the idea of supporting small businesses, and although Malabrigo is well established in the yarn world, I applaud its journey and feel very happy to explore its creations. Malabrigo is a family-owned yarn company located in Uruguay and Peru. They’ve developed a line of hand-dyed yarns that are inspired by nature, landscapes, places, art and day-to-day life. Most of their yarns are made with 100% Uruguayan Merino wool.
This is my first exploration into their sumptuous yarns and I love the handfeel, the colours, the nuances of texture and tone and the myriad opportunities for me to explore further.

Full description
This listing is for an unusual, tone-fade rib-stitch scarf, crafted from super-soft Uruguayan Merino yarn.
Weight: 225g
Length: 183 cms
Yarn: Malabrigo Caracol ‘Diana’
Stitch: Rib
Malabrigo Caracol is an astonishing yarn. I love the skin-feel of the soft merino thick-and-thin spun fibres and I'm captivated by the criss-cross of black threads that seem to create a stained glass window effect as the fabric emerges. I love the variations in stitch size on my needles (9mm) - and with light, sensitive fingers I adapted my tension to work with the variations rather than trying to tame them.
I'm utterly fascinated too about the colour variations. This scarf is crafted from 2 x 150g skeins of Diana, bought from the same source at the same time. The colourways of both are rich, warm and eye-catching yet tonally quite different. My work is intentionally avant-garde, often bold and always considered. Working with colour changes, intentional or incidental, feels like a real celebration of the work of dyers, and I love the way this scarf shows off these eccentricities.
A scarf is more than a linear piece of stitchery, and its possibilities are only limited by convention!
