A very warm welcome to Elflock Woolworks at Waney Grain. I'm Karen and I'm a free-style experimental knitter working with luxurious yarns that feel silky-soft against the skin.My husband, Nick, is a woodturner and he is the Waney Grain side of this Folksy shop.
Opals, Peaches and Sunsets is a wearable yarn painting of three of my absolute favourite things. My engagement ring contains a single opal and after all these years I still find new colours if I stare at it for long enough! Peach tones are so warm and luscious and sunsets capture my imagination and draw me in. I didn’t set out to tell this story. I set out to see what story the yarn would tell….

Full description
This listing is for a luxurious, flamboyant and very eye-catching wearable art scarf crafted from the lustrous locks of high welfare Wensleydale sheep. The yarn used in this scarf has been hand-dyed then hand-spun by a skilled and experienced artisan. Her work is a joy to behold, and an honour to work.
I call this beautiful scarf ‘Opals, Peaches and Sunsets’
Weight: 265g
Length: 147cms
Yarn: Hand-spun, hand-dyed Wensleydale
Gauge:Thick and Thin/ Artyarn with locks
Stitch: Garter
The yarn that I’ve used for this scarf is best described as both 'thick and thin' meaning that the gauge varies significantly and eccentrically throughout, and 'art yarn', meaning that the spinner has added multi-textural colour accents, lustrous 'locks' and fibre clusters that drawn the eye and capture the imagination. It is quite simply stunning.
The colours are a ravishing flowers-in-buttermilk melange. A heady confection of opals, peaches and sunsets, and each little lock-cluster adds both tone and texture to the work.
What a very elegant Summer accessory for afternoon tea in the garden, an outdoor concert or an evening wedding reception. What a very stylish accessory to wear on chilly Autumn days for a lunch in a cosy pub, a wander around an exhibition or a trip to the theatre. It would certainly turn heads as a shoulder-warmer over a little cocktail dress, perhaps on an ocean going cruise ship or a magical, meandering river voyage.
