A very warm welcome to Elflock Woolworks at Waney Grain. I'm Karen and I'm a free-style experimental knitter working with luxurious yarns that feel silky-soft against the skin.My husband, Nick, is a woodturner and he is the Waney Grain side of this Folksy shop.
My Wearable Art range comes from my fascination with beautiful hand-spun art yarns and how I might coax them into stitches on my needles. Art yarns are created by accomplished and imaginative spinners who create workable strands by mixing wool, silk, recycled materials and modern fibres in myriad textures, thicknesses and colours. They are a challenge to knit and need patience, a light touch and understanding!!!
I use yarns to tell a tones-and-textures stitch story, to inspire my customers who love wearing something unique, luxurious and bold, and to support artisan spinners and dyers who love their crafts as much as I love mine.
Coral Reef is a wearable yarn painting that captures the colours of a living reef. With imagination it teems with life. Dive in …….

Full description
This listing is for a luxurious, flamboyant and very eye-catching wearable art scarf crafted from the lustrous locks of high welfare Wensleydale sheep. The yarns used in the scarf are from two dye-batches: the first was dyed for the flock owner and was bought from them. The second were colour-matched for me by the same dyer so that they would blend harmoniously.
I call this dramatic scarf 'Coral Reef'.
Weight: 373g
Length: 157cms
Yarn: Hand-spun, hand-dyed Wensleydale
Gauge:Thick and Thin/ Artyarn with locks
Stitch: Garter
The yarn that I’ve used for this scarf is best described as both 'thick and thin' meaning that the gauge varies significantly and eccentrically throughout, and 'art yarn', meaning that the spinner has added multi-textural colour accents, lustrous 'locks' and fibre clusters that drawn the eye and capture the imagination. It is quite simply stunning. In shades of ocean blue, and with pastel-and-gemstone coloured accents it's wearable art in the truest sense.
Coral Reef would be a very elegant Summer accessory for a garden party, a day at the races or a wedding reception. It would be a very stylish accessory to wear on chilly Autumn days for a lunch in a cosy pub, a wander around an exhibition or a trip to the theatre. It would certainly turn heads as a shoulder-warmer over a little cocktail dress, perhaps on an ocean going cruise ship or a magical, meandering river voyage.
