Welcome to my shop full of needle felt birds, artfully made in wool and natural fibres.
I am busy felting new birds and making plans for some exciting new collections for 2026. I only add finished birds to my Folksy shop, so you can rest assured they can be posted within 24 hours of ordering and will fly safely to you or a gift recipient within a few days.

Like many wading birds, the Little Ringed Plover chicks are precocial which means it can feed itself and run to hide from danger almost as soon as it hatches from the egg. They are covered in fluffy down to stay warm and have adorable long legs to grow into. The parent bird is ever wary and watchful, with those bright yellow-ringed eyes always alert looking out for danger. I have found watching Little Ringed Plovers utterly beguiling and really wanted to capture that relationship between parent and child, very like the one I felt whilst watching my own children grow and toddle away from me. I adopted this bird as the image in my logo for Mindful Felting because of that shared gaze and sense of guarding, which I now also feel towards our threatened and vulnerable bird populations too.

Two Little Ringed Plovers, a parent and chick hand-made and sculpted in wool, to be treasured together.
The chick is free-standing on its two slender legs - wire wrapped in wool - standing 9cms tall, 7.5cms long and 4.5cms wide. The body is pure needle-felted wool, with hand-cast painted eyes and a tiny stiffened wool beak .
The parent watches with bright yellow-ringed eyes alert to danger. They stand on one foot, the other leg raised as if about to step tentatively forward. Their plumage is captured in detail on the back and head, with perfectly crafted individual wing and tail feathers held tight in to their body. They are 13.5cms tall, 17cms long and 5.5cms wide and can be posed close in against the chick or as if watching at a distance as the chick confidently investigate their surroundings. Using the same techniques as their chick, they are pure wool, with hand-cast and painted eyes, a stiffened wool beak gleaming atop those legs made from wire wrapped in wool.

A joyful celebration of the continued lifelong joy birds can bring to us all, these are not toys and so are meant to be treated gently in order to be treasured for at least a life-time.
