The inspiration for the painting was a walk I took last June across quiet farmland where I caught glimpses through thick hedgerow to the next field. A white mare was unaware I was watching her through a gap in hedge and was clearly having a wonderful time tossing her head and flexing her muscles in the sunny meadow she was in. It made me wonder if she would go the full Disney and turn into a unicorn. Unfortunately, she didn’t but the experience made me want to paint it anyway. I have included a photo I took of her to give some context.
