Full description
A colourful blue tit posed in flight with outstretched wings. This blue tit has been created using a needle felting technique where woollen fibres are bound together and sculpted into shape using a barbed felting needle. After sculpting the basic shape using white core wool, a top coat of blue and yellow merino wool fibres have been added with appropriate markings added around the head. The tail and wings of the blue tit have been formed from pieces of stiffened wet felt and the leading edge of the wings have been wired to enable them to be shaped as required. The legs are formed from tape wrapped wire and the eyes are beaded. Finally silk clay has been used to create the beak.
The blue tit has been mounted by means of a transparent perspex rod onto a rustic wooden base. The blue tit is roughly life sized with a wingspan of 23 cm and the ornament as a whole measures approximately 19 cm tall.
