A mistake when ordering more string led to the creation of my String Bling. Instead of the usual chunky Polished Cotton Twine I knit with to make hot water bottle covers, I ended up with this super skinny, tightly wound spool. It was no good for knitting by hand as it would twist back on itself when not under tension, so I thought I'd try knitting it through my little Prym French knitting mill. What came out was not the usual round cord but a square tube and my mind instantly jumped to chain links. A few weeks of trial and error with grafting stitches and I eventually managed to create *almost* seamless chains, and so String Bling was born...

I'll be honest, the term String Bling is a bit tongue in cheek - it's string people, nothing could be less bling than string! But it is plastic free, hand dyed and made by me at my old oak dining table.
These Rainbow versions of my chunky chain necklaces were made with Pride in mind, but they're a quirky statement piece that can worn at anytime - I often wear mine to elevate a plain t-shirt.
All my necklaces are a continuous loop to be put on over the head. The cord is long enough to fit over all but the most elaborate of up-dos. If you prefer a shorter look simply tie a knot in it at the back. Dressed up or down, these necklaces are versatile, quirky and fun. They're made from 100% Polished Cotton Twine, so are suitable for those who are unable to tolerate metal and metal coating.
Current wearers of my String Bling range from mums with babes in arms, for whom the chain becomes a tactile twiddle toy, to individuals with musculoskeletal issues who are appreciate how lightweight they are.
A note on the colour... due to the nature of the French knitted string and the dyeing processes involved, each chain link may have white patching where the two ends have been stitched together. Maybe one day I'll figure out how to overcome this, but for now it's part of the quirk of owning this handmade item.
