We have retired - so our lovely Folksy shop has now closed.
Thank you to everyone who has supported and/or bought from us. It has been much appreciated.

Wishing everyone all the very best.
I recently made a willow garden trug for collecting flowers/vegetables when someone commented it would be good to have a basket hanging from the waist to collect fruit.
So I turned a simple oval basket into a waist foraging basket by attaching a couple of strong stainless steel catches to one of the stakes as the top wale weave was woven in.
I would suggest lining the basket with a freezer bag - or perhaps an oval ice-cream container - to protect the basket from too much staining.
I think it works a treat!

A small oval basket with sturdy clips so the basket can be hung from your trouser loops or a belt for foraging all those brambles. A “brambling basket”.
Woven with one flat side to sit against the body, and the other slightly outward curving for easy access to the basket.
Hand-woven from buff willow grown in Somerset. Buff willow is produced from the standard basketry willow variety Black Maul - which is boiled and then has its bark stripped off to produce this lovely honey coloured willow. Due to the boiling process, buff willow is very strong - but lightweight due to the removal of its bark. This is why it has been the traditional willow used for many years for baskets - old photographs show mail delivery baskets, baskets on the backs of cars, laundry and shopping baskets all traditionally made from buff willow.
Base diameter 19cms (7.5”) x 12cms (4.5”); top 19cms (5.5”) ) x 19cms (7.5”); height 19cms (7.5”)
I suggest popping in a freezer bag which can be re-used many times to protect the basket from too much staining.
I hope you enjoy your basket - have fun with your foraging.
