Fernery is the name for a collection of ferns - either in a Wardian case, a greenhouse, or a specific area of a garden. Ferneries came about during the Victorian 'Fern Frenzy' between the 1840s and 1890s, where their love affair with ferns invaded all aspects of Victorian life. Ferns and fern motifs appeared everywhere, in homes, gardens, art and literature. Ferns are still popular today, there are over 10,000 species worldwide, they are non-flowering, and some can live up to 100 years.

Full description
Three pretty ferns make up this Wet Cyanotype, getting up close and personal to have their photo taken by the Hampshire sunshine. These baby fern fronds were growing in a pot in the Fernery area of my garden, delicate and a fresh lime green colour, but they now look great in hues of blue. Ferns make it easy to be cyanotype subjects, their tooth-edged fronds lay fairly flat on the paper, and press well too for future use.
For further information on the Cyanotype and Wet Cyanotype techniques see ‘About' in my shop.
