This staff was a test of my jointing skills. Traditional Stick Makers join handles to stick shanks using what they call a 'peg'. Basically, a spigot is hand carved on the end of the stick shank, a hole is drilled in the bottom of the handle, and the two are joined and glued. The mark of a perfectly jointed stick, is the absence of visible joint line, and the absence of any joint 'ridge' being felt. Buy this one (or any one of my handled sticks) and see for yourself.

Welsh Hazel Thumb stick, Shooting, Hiking, Walking stick with semi polished Buffalo horn 'Churchill' handle. Beautifully and carefully hand crafted using only hand tools, and plain jointed in the traditional way. The simply wonderful markings and patterning in the Welsh Hazel shank has Gold and Bronze colouring with greenish hues, depending where the light strikes it. The handle has been crafted from solid Water Buffalo horn, carefully shaped, polished, and jointed to the shank, using long standing, and traditional stick making techniques. Hand rubbed with natural raw linseed oil and beeswax polish that I make to my own recipe.
If fitted with the Alpine spike option, perfect for driving into soft ground for use as a 'wait' point for Gundogs, and for hanging dog leads, jackets, bags etc.
50 inches (127cm) from the tip to the 'V' bottom. 7 eigths inch (2.2cm) at the handle joint, tapering to 3 quarters inch (1.9cm) at the tip. Can be shortened to your own requirements, (please state when ordering).
