Twisted Hazel shanks are a rarity. I buy mine in from collectors in Wales. The twist happens when the young, tender Hazel shoot, becomes invaded by usually, wild Honeysuckle. It constricts the Hazel while it grows. They do make very beautiful walking sticks, they are a bugger to straighten and get looking 'right'! I relish the challenge each one presents.
This one looks 'right' to me, but you please be the judge.

Full description

Twisted Hazel walking stick, Hiking staff, with Antler roll handle capped with Water Buffalo horn, and fitted 'rolled' edge, copper joint collar. Carefully hand crafted from a rare piece of gnarly, rustic and vine twisted, Welsh Hazel, which was invaded by a Honeysuckle vine during its growth resulting in the constriction and twisting of the branch, and which has been stained by a variety of Moss and Lichen growth. The natural character of the piece has been revealed, and retained by hand finishing using carefully selected abrasives, preservative oils, and a hard wearing varnish. A very distinctive and unique item!
