"American Summertime" is an expressive painting of an archetypical young American woman sunbathing. The depiction is cropped with a focus on the torso and the canned drink in the figure's hand, as it represents a nostalgic, familiar image with critical context missing. Inspiration came with reflecting on the experiences of teenage years in the American Northeast, embracing adulthood, feminine essence, the freedoms of youth, and acceptance of sexuality as we age between adolescent and adult life. The result is a slightly unsettling, confusing, and yet laughable feeling of dreamlike archetypical experiences in youth.
