This bench is an evolution of a similar one I made when I first started making furniture over 15 years ago. It was to be featured as part of a design exhibition but there was something I didnt like about it so when the exhibition was over and it was removed from its well lit pedistal, I took it appart and used most of the bits in other projects. I decided to revisit the shape with a slab of Cherry that had been taking up space in the workshop for a few years, as an experiement to see how much I had learned about my work in the intervening years. I like this on better, its never been displayed on a pedistal, but to my eye, it looks nicer that the original and works a treat!

Full description

This bench is made from an air dried slab of cherry that has been seasoning in the workshop for at least 3 years now. The bench top has a dramatic figure and grain patern that depending on the light can looks somewhere between honey and peach which contracts with the slightly darker legs. With simple ash strectches to give some contrast and structural stability, this bench creates a subtle shape, ideal for a hallway or as a window seat.
