Made in Wirral by me, Alison Bailey Smith. My work is definitely a by-product of the 21st century & I have been described as a 'techno -cannibal' by BBC journalist Clare English. My career has spanned 3 decades and three different countries since leaving Edinburgh College of Art in 1990. The motivation behind my work comes from being the child of post war parents, Scottish thriftiness and an avid watcher of Blue Peter! My need to re-use, re-develop and re-create can be seen in my use of ordinary materials in my creations.
Although my training was initially in jewellery and silver-smithing, I have crossed over successfully into the world of textiles, costume and fashion (I have won several awards including Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year, Recycling Fashion Designer of the Year and various awards for Fibre in North America and Australasia).

Recycled beaded heart pendant on ribbon (with sterling silver fittings) made with recycled & repurposed materials - mainly knotted and stitched copper wire from old televisions and motors with bought pale blue wire. This lovely summer gift is handmade in UK by Alison Bailey Smith (ABScraft) on cream organza ribbon. Inspired by the romantic jewellery in the collection of the National Museum of Scotland - the 'Penicuik Jewels', said to have belonged to Mary Queen of Scots. I am delighted that I have three pieces in their collection.
The pearl beaded necklace is supplied with gift box, with card to describe the contents - breaking down what is recycled, repurposed or bought. I reuse outer packaging for shipping. Perfect for an eco bride or bridesmaid gift. Apologies for environmental reasons - I am only shipping with the UK at the moment. Perfect for the eco friendly person in your life, male or female
Supplied with branded card and acid green recycled envelope, with small card to describe components. Great for an alternative bride! A contemporary contrast to netting and lace - with something old built in!
