I'm inspired by the new growths and blossoming colours of spring, and I've tried to recreate them in this vibrant piece.

This unique piece is alive with spring colours, ready made to bring your home to life. I just love to make these delightful artworks, if I had room in my house I would keep them all! I'm certain that this piece will look great in a prominent place in your home. It's freestanding so you can place it anywhere to brighten up a space, or as a focal point on a mantelpiece or dressing table.
The piece is 24 cm wide and 12 cm tall, so it's large enough to make a visual impression but small enough not to dominate a wall or bathroom scene. The glass is 6 mm thick so it's a sturdy piece and feels solid when you handle it.
I created it by building the picture up from coloured glass on a clear glass background. To achieve the stalks and grasses I used glass stringers, and the meadow floor was created with a mixture of cut glass pieces and crushed glass fused together to produce the effect I wanted. The yellow flowers are made using 'freeze and fuse', where I mix glass powder with water in a mould and then freeze it to keep its shape, before heating it rapidly in the kiln to produce the lovely detailed flower heads that stand proud from the picture. After firing in the kiln to fuse the glass into one solid piece, it was put through a second time over a special mould to produce the attractive curved shape, allowing the finished item to stand proudly on display.
