Welcome to Hazleton Art- Botanical Cyanotype Photograms, handmade in Hampshire.

Cyanotype is a camera-less photographic technique, that produces a distinct ‘Prussian Blue’ colour print (Photogram) The process was discovered in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, as a means for reproducing drawings and diagrams (Blueprints). Botanist Anna Atkins in the late 19th century was the first to document seaweed and plants using this technique.

All about Indigo-Japanese Indigo dye is prized for being a beautiful colour and for its more practical qualities. Clothes made from the natural Indigo dye, unlike cheaply produced chemical dyes, get better with age. Instead of fading and looking tired and worn-out, indigo’s organic qualities mean that they age like leather does.
The medicinal properties of Indigo are well known, it has been consumed in Japan since ancient times as an antibacterial, known to strengthen the immune system and fight common colds. It can be extracted by powdering the plant's root, flowers and seeds. It even beats blueberries in this aspect, containing four times more antioxidants, and is widely incorporated into Japanese foods and teas.
