I'd noticed that pieces of old wood such as driftwood or fallen branches often suggest something such as an animal ,figure or something else. I saw the suggestion of a dogs face in the intersection between two branches off a fallen twig and it really went from that moment. The head came first then i set about creating a body and legs all from composite pieces of wood. It took a long time and many tiny pieces glued on and sanded back befor he came together as a whole. The tones in the wood suggested the browns you see in the daschund's coat . He's definitely a pup as his head is larger than the body. I added an old metal bell on a ribbon originallly from a chocolate bunny to finish him off.

Full description

A gorgeous little hand made christmas Daschund / jack russell cross puppy.

This is the result of finding natural shapes in wood and a little extra woodwork to create this little character. He was a little labour of love.

The form of the head was suggested by the natural shape of a broken branch where it intersected . The nose and muzzle were then accentuated by sanding back and carving. I used the natural color of the darker bark and the lighter wood underneath to suggest the colors of the dogs coat which was a match to the dark brown and toffee colors you often see in Daschund fur.The Legs were added using a very strong glue and the head was attached using a peg in hole method to make it secure to the base of the neck and torso.

He does seem pretty solid but he is made of composite parts so i would use a little caution when handling Lastly a final little flourish was to add a festive ribbon and bell around his neck.

He really needs a loving home and would make an ideal gift for a dog lover or a Daschund owner. Perfect little gift of original sculpture.

He does have a tail now (i originally thought it would be too delicate)t you can't see it in the photos asi added it later.... photo update to follow.

Sent bubble wrapped and boxed for safe delivery.
