This is a beautiful, hand carved Horse Chestnut walking stick with Oak hand grip

The stick started out as a chunky branch that I found whilst walking my dog in my local woods, which was then dried and treated over the following 2 years.

From this one branch I carved the shaft with the 2 snakes and a small mouse. This was a long process involving marking, sawing, debarking, whittling and sanding, followed by marking and hand carving each scale on the two snakes. The wood was then treated with sanding sealer and tung oil, before painting and waxing and finally finishing with a Shellac varnish.

My next step was to carve a snake head from a piece of Oak, before securely attaching it to the shaft to make a comfortable hand grip.

This unique walking stick took me approximately 80 hours from the first cut to the final coat of Shellac varnish.

It comes with a brass ferrule attached and a rubber one to slide over the brass one for grip.
