A very warm welcome to Elflock Woolworks at Waney Grain. I'm Karen and I'm a free-style experimental knitter working with luxurious yarns that feel silky-soft against the skin.My husband, Nick, is a woodturner and he is the Waney Grain side of this Folksy shop.
I started my woolworks adventures using super chunky yarns and loved the speed with which my creations grew.
But in 2022 I stumbled into the world of sockweight, fingering weight and laceweight yarns. As an experimental knitter I was intrigued by the way these delicate, beautiful and imaginative yarns were crafted by talented artisan dyers and I decided to explore them on my needles. My thinking was that such captivating yarns deserved better than being confined to feet and never seen because they were hidden inside shoes!!!
The first yarns I bought terrified me with their fineness, and when my new needles arrived and I took my first tottering steps it felt as if I was trying to persuade gossamer to play nicely!!!
But what a joy it was to watch the way these fine threads emerged as knittery! The fascinating colourways that looked intriguing in the skein took on a beauty that I hadn't envisaged as they clustered in stitches and grew into something wearable.
