Garnet is the traditional birthstone for January and Capricorn.
Garnet is one of the oldest known gemstones.
The ancient Egyptians buried their dead with necklaces and ornaments of garnet.
The common belief that garnets had the power to shield their wearer from harm made them popular with both royalty and warriors.
In the middle ages it was believed that a dragons eyes glowed red because they were made of garnet.
It is thought to be a highly protective stone.
Garnet is also considered the stone for a 2nd anniversary.

Full description
Delicate drop earrings featuring a pair of deep red natural Pyrope Garnet nuggets, a 4mm Garnet round bead, a tiny gold vermeil spacer and a trio of AA Rhodolite Garnet bicones.
The AA Rhodolite Garnet bicones, with their raspberry colour, are approximately 3x4mm and give a subtle glint when they catch the light.
The polished, semi-translucent nuggets of natural Pyrope Garnet are a darker red colour and vary in shape and size.
The beads are threaded onto gold vermeil headpins and hung from gold vermeil ear-wires.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with 18k gold, and the wires are stamped '925'.
Please note that the pins I have threaded these beads onto are very fine and delicate (the beads have very small holes) and will bend easily - if this happens simple straighten gently with your fingers.
These pretty Garnet earrings measures approximately 1.25 inches (3cm).
Your earrings will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a small organza gift bag.
