Amethyst (purple quartz) is the birthstone for Aquarius and February, and the stone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversaries.
Amethyst is also associated with St Valentine.
It was believed he wore an amethyst ring engraved with a cupid to enable young soldiers to recognise him.
Emperor Claudius 11, believing married men made bad soldiers, had forbidden soldiers to wed, but Valentine would conduct secret marriage ceremonies.
The Emperor had him beheaded circa A.D. 270.

Gorgeous necklace of purple amethyst with 'violet' Swarovski crystal bicones and tiny gold vermeil spacer beads.
At the centre I have used five highly polished, deep purple 7x11mm Amethyst nuggets, separated by 4mm Swarovski crystals for sparkle and highlighted with 2.5mm gold vermeil spacers for extra shine.
The centrepiece sits between a mix of frosted and polished 6mm Sage Amethyst beads.
Sage amethyst is a type of amethyst, sometimes called "banded", "chevron" or "dog tooth" amethyst, that is purple quartz (Amethyst) mixed with swirls of white quartz (Rock Crystal) giving beautiful, cloudy patterns that have also led to the name "dream amethyst".
The necklace fastens with a rose Tibetan toggle clasp in an antique gold finish.
This clasp is lead and nickel free.
This choker-style necklace measures approximately 15.5 inches (39cm).
Your necklace will be wrapped in tissue and presented in a pretty organza gift bag.
