I have always loved both sewing and fashion. As a young girl, I was always drawing pictures of queens and princesses in impossibly frothy and elaborate dresses. I sent a special one to Buckingham Palace and was thrilled to hear back from a lady-in-waiting, saying that the Queen loved my picture and had it on her wall. Spurred on by this response, and impatient to become a princess (aged 8), I wrote to Prince Charles with a proposal of marriage. While I waited for his reply, I made paper clothes for my dress-up dolls, grew up to make real clothes for myself and friends, studied fashion and textile design for my degree, and went on to be a fashion journalist and writer. Now, years later, I'm sewing again, and steeped in a world of fashion and the tiny clothes I make to stitch on to my cards.
