So, 2021 saw the introduction of Strinsel - a 100% cotton string tinsel alternative. This year I've got another introduction to make - Strinsel made from nothing but JUTE and cotton thread.
I love my plain cotton Strinsel - it always makes me thing of the way snow lays on the branches of fir trees - but it was my quest for a more classic gold and silver Strinsel that led me to jute.
Jute fibres have a lustre, reflecting the light, giving it a slightly metallic shimmer. Plain jute varies in colour, from off white to golden brown, so perfect for a Gold Strinsel, but it also dyes really well. The possibilities for Strinsel are now endless...

This beautiful, bright teal Strinsel is made from nowt but jute and cotton thread. Available in 2 metre lengths, it is sewn together, by me, at my old oak dining table. It should therefore not be cut to size, otherwise it will all unravel. It should also be kept away from fire and flame.
A word on sustainability...
STRINSEL - a small production, plastic free alternative to PVC tinsel - will be adorning our house over the festive season. And on the 5th of January it will be wrapped in tissue and shoved, I mean CAREFULLY placed in the attic until next year, and next year, and the year after that...
No glue or plastic is used in my work, and all the packaging I use can be re-used, composted or widely recycled.
