Full description
Handmade, traditional Jester marionette.
The Jester marionettes is a traditional marionette. He is a one-off and has a completely unique face, hair and clothes. He is 23"/59cm tall from his hat to his toes. When he is hung up he is 40"/101 from the control hook to his shoes.
He is a fully jointed marionette. He is hand carved from recycled pine (joinery offcuts) with traditional wooden joints at the elbows, knees and ankles, strong upholstery tape joints at the wrists and torso for extra flexibilty and life like movement and wire and dowel jointed shoulders so the arm can turn right around.
The puppet heads are moulded first in plastercine, then covered with very strong paper layers. When the head is dry the plastercine is removed, this destroys the plastercine mould so all the faces are unique. he has a carved wooden opening mouth.
He is painted with acrylics and sealed with a matt varnish for extra strength. His hair and beard are angora wool from our pet goat.
His clothes are hand stitched from preloved cotton with silver bells on the points so he jingles when he dances. He has a Jester stitck to talk to and perform his routines with.
The control is made from recycled beech and new hardwood dowel. The marionettes are quite complicated and take some time to master the movements. All of the separate movements are easy and with practice you can combine them to create a very lifelike jester.
