applique & freehand embroidered notebook for fans of cake - with A6 sketchbook inside.
“carpe crustulam” – sieze the cake. is that a cake knife or a trowel? does cutlery even matter?
this embroidered cover features a coat of arms and a very wise motto in latin (possibly).
i’ve used a floral print cotton and coordinating strawberry and mint cottons to create the design, individually hand-cutting each piece of fabric, and then (very patiently!) layering & appliqueing them onto cotton calico, before “drawing” the intricate details - including the text - on freehand, using free motion embroidery. there is an embroidered heart on the reverse.
there's no computerised wizardry here; each cover is made entirely on a domestic sewing machine.
it's entirely cut, stitched and handmade , with care, by me, ensuring each notebook cover is unique, well made and securely constructed.
the slipcover itself is made from heavy weight calico which has been pre-washed several times so it’s soft and should not shrink when washed.
the seams are overlocked and topstitched and the cover is stiffened with interfacing.
the calico cover is washable and re-usable, simply replace the A6 sketchbook when it's full. the sketchbooks are manufactured in the UK. they are quality casebound hard cover books, containing all media cartridge paper.
