Let’s be realistic, I was long overdue a bright red for my collection – so here’s blood moon, a bright, single pigment scarlet colour made from PR3, otherwise known as studio red or helio red.
Blood moon has no granulation, average dispersal (despite using a fair amount of ox gall in the mix), good transparency and extremely high tinting strength (a little goes a long way, trust me!)
It rewets easily but is stronger with a little soak in the pan first. It has fair lightfastness, owing to red pigment (the pigment itself is rated as a 5-6/8 for lightfastness by the manufacturer).

You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.

Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; items which deteriorate quickly (e.g. food), personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken; digital items.

BLOOD MOON

This beautiful rich watercolour paint has been carefully handcrafted right here in my studio in sunny old Leeds. Blood moon is a bright, simple primary red made from a single pigment and my own unique binder recipe.

Available as dot cards, half pans and full pans.

PAINT BEHAVIOUR

Rewetability: rewets easily

Dispersal in water: good

Granulation: no

Transparency: good

Tinting strength: very good

Lightfastness: fair (owing to red pigments!)

Pigment(s): PR3

MATERIALS

All inredients in my paints are non-toxic.

My binder consists of gum arabic, distilled water, clove oil, glycerin and honey.

As such this paint is not vegan and has a very slight scent.

SIZES

Dot card: a generous blob of paint on a piece of watercolour paper, great for a tester

Half pan: a standard half pan (20mm by 17mm and 10mm deep) full of hand poured paint

Full pan: a standard full pan (30mm by 18mm and 10mm deep) full of hand poured paint

Sometimes the pan surfaces may be concave from the pouring process.

INFO CARDS

As standard, each order will come with a little info sheet on how I make my paint.

You will also get a mini (A7 size) info card per colour which explains a bit about it, how it behaves and some background - we love colour with a story, amirite?

The card/paper I print this info on is made from recycled coffee cup
