Recently I went for my familiar walk along a beautiful stretch of local canal. It is rather idyllic, populated with Geese and houseboats, coloured by white daisies and the blush of summer roses tumbling from the ends of neighboring gardens.
Yet on this particular day, I was unmoved by its flowers and intricacies. but that is how I came to notice the shadows…the beautiful dappling patterns that inhabited the dark spots and the underneath of things. Spikes like a desert cactus, a trellis of cherry blossom…grids and lines, a cluster of orbs… I was fascinated at this otherworld of bobbing mystery. I watched them fade and die as the light went, only to be reborn as a cloud shifted and the sun animated them again.
I took photographs, I saw their marks and their makings. I noticed the subtlety and the nuance of those no colours. One walk, six shadows, just passing moments in the heat of a random summer’s day, mesmerizing, then gone.

ONE WALK, SIX SHADOWS
I created a set of 6 circular wearable art brooches inspired by the shapes and patterns of the shadows I came across on a single walk this summer. Each brooch is hand painted, entirely unique and a mini drawing that you can wear! The emphasis is on lines. mark making and texture which is a feature of all my artwork and jewelry.
The brooches are lightweight to wear and measure approximately 5cm in diameter. They fasten simply at the back with a stainless steel brooch pin. Each brooch in the series has a different back design.
