Georgina was asked to knit a collection of endangered animals for the Woman's Institute Home and Country magazine in 1992. In that year Pandas numbered less than 1000 in Western China .Its population dropped to under 300 but mercifully Pandas numbers are now around 1800. Hurrah for Pandas

MR GIANT PANDA knitting pattern by GEORGINA MANVELL
Mr Panda measures 20cm (8 in) high and 30cm (12 in) long when completed in Chunky yarn This pattern uses 4mm knitting needles and approx 100g of yarn. For a smaller Panda ,DK yarn is used on 3mm knitting needles
This lovely pattern was designed by the designer Georgina Manvell. The pattern was first published in Home & Country magazine in April 1992. The article was called Knit on the Wild Side ( Endangered Species). We have included a picture of the Giant Panda featured in the original Home & Country magazine
We decided that Mr Panda deserved a fresh look and so used the original picture in our pattern but with a new format and extra photos. This is exactly the same pattern as featured in Home & Country. Georgina & I ( Suzannah Holwell) now work in partnership as designers with joint copyrights
