Georgina loves this collection of endangered animals. Designing them was a special project to her. In 1989 the African Elephant population was 625,000. In 1990 a worldwide ban on the ivory trade was brought into force
Sadly their numbers have fallen to 415,000. Mainly in the Botswana area. We must never lose this old friend

AFRICAN ELEPHANT knitting pattern by Georgina Manvell
He measures 18cm high at the shoulder when completed in DK yarn. He is a very authentic looking elephant and easy to knit.
He was first published in Womens Institute magazine Home and Country 1992. We have shown you a picture of the original magazine article called Knit on the Wild Side
