Imbolc falls halfway between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox and marks the first day of Spring (celebrated by Christians as Candlemas) - it was considered unlucky to pick snowdrops and bring inside before this date. The white of the snowdrop symbolises innocence and purity. Because it is the first flower to bloom at the end of winter and the beginning of spring, it also symbolises hope.
A special flower for me as February is my birthday month!
