We are all learning that bars of soap are better for the environment than liquid soap, so when a friend asked if I made soap dishes I leapt at the idea. Then came the design: A soap dish needs to hold your soap, but also to allow it to drain between uses, and to not get stuck to either the soap or side of the sink... so drainage holes, raised dots and feet. Who knew that so much went into a soap dish.

A very special soap dish made for Christmas. This soap dish is handmade and decorated and will bring a touch of Christmas to your kitchen or bathroom, it is ideal if you are trying to move away from the plastic bottles of liquid soap and could be paired with a beautifully scented handmake soap, from a local seller, for an eco-friendly bathroom.
This simple creamy white coloured soap dish is decorated with two sprigs of holly. Each sprig of holly is made of two leaves and tiny balls of clay for berries. The leaves are cut out of a thin sheet of clay and placed on the mould, the whole mould is then covered with a sheet of clay, so that the the leaves and berries are slightly recessed into the clay, but are level with the surface of the dish. The holly is painted with a deep green and Christmas red underglaze, and the whole piece coated in transparent glaze. The beauty of this technique means that while the sprigs of holly are separate to the body of the dish there are no cracks or crevices for soap residue to get stuck in.
The dish features a pattern of raised dots to stop the soap sticking to the dish, a slightly sloped base with drainage holes so your soap doesn't end up sitting in a puddle, and underneath there are feet so your dish will not stick to the sink. The whole piece is glazed for a clean hygienic finish.
