Hello and welcome or better still welcome back to my little shop.
I hope you'll find that special thing here in the shop as I make everything by hand, welcoming the differences that these techniques bring.
So if its slick, shiny, bright colours you are looking for, that's really not happening here but warm, funny, happy creature lead pieces - you are in the right place. Step in and take a look around.

Who doesn’t love a fire? Who doesn’t love a wren? So lucky me I got to do smoke fired wrens – perfect!
And look at those crazy flashes, the speckling, the spots. I love the dark patches that flare randomly over its body. Sometimes its subtle and others it’s in stark contrast, sometimes plain white body, others crazy busy patterning.
They also feel good to hold, the silky finish, the gentle modelling of wings, tail and beak or just the feel of them sitting there in the palm of your hand.

These striking little pottery birds were born in a whirl of flames, they emerged from the ashes of a smoke firing bin with all the flashes and speckles I love from smoke firing.
First modelled with a smooth finish, then burnished until it is a regular sheen all over. You just need to give yourself over to this as it involves polishing, polishing and polishing some more. But ultimately this strengthens them and also gives a silky smooth finish. Once dry they are fired to 1000 degrees C, then the fun begins.
I fill a bin with combustible materials, paper and sticks of course but then the interesting stuff; seaweed, grass stalks, orange peel, banana skins and pine needles. Then there’s the secret ingredient but I obviously can’t divulge that one.
Light the fire and that’s it – the rest is dependent on the flames.
Once out, clean off the ash and debris, then dry and apply the wax and begin to polish. This takes a while but is really worth it as it leaves the wrens with a lovely subtle sheen and enhances the markings.
It might be worth saying I'm not in control of the markings, sometimes it's very black or just a white patch. Really - no two are the same - ever.
These wrens are around 5cm high, lovely smooth finish and very rounded shape.
I am keen to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible, and I try to recycle and reuse packaging but not at the expense of safe travel.
Free shipping within the UK. I am only shipping to UK at the moment, sorry.
