As with all fairy tales, there are many different versions of the story of Cinderella. In France for example, she is called Cendrillon and is assisted in her fortunes by a magical fairy Godmother who can amongst other things, transform mice and pumpkins.

So it was that I too did a little transforming with polymer clay, glitter and glass to create this enchanting piece.

If Cendrillon were set in winter time, I would imagine that when she sets foot into the garden, it would be cold and bedecked with frost. Icy patterns would be forming on the ground and frost crystals would trace outlines on the veins of the leaves. All plant life would be frozen in time and glittering in the moonlight. Also glittering would be the late crop of pale orange to light blue pumpkins (based on real life blue Jarrahdale pumpkins), with the largest one significant and synonymous with the famous coach. Also significant is the curious mouse attracted by the magic and the soft sparkle from the real glass slipper that takes centre stage in this scene. With these seemingly innocuous articles mid transformation, this magical moment from the story is forever frozen in time in this sculpture.

This piece is set on a wooden board which is 10cm in diameter. Everything except for the glass slipper is made from polymer clay. The mouse is also clay and covered with hand dyed flocking powder. The 'ice' on the ground and pumpkins is made from tiny shards of craft glass and detailed with paint, glitter and varnish. The glass is sharp so handle with care.
