The Welsh Dragon is the National emblem of Wales.
Being a lover of folklore I find the legend of the Welsh Dragon fascinating.
A red dragon living in Britain was fighting with an invading white dragon. King Lludd, the ruler of Britain, was instructed that to stop the dragons fighting he must dig a pit to contain them both in the centre of Britain. He must fill it with mead and cover it in cloth. They came, drank mead, fell asleep and were imprisoned. Later King Vortigern attempted to build a castle there but the walls and foundations were destroyed overnight. He was advised to find a boy without a natural father and sacrifice him to stop the destruction. The boy told him that the destruction was because of the dragons trapped in the pit. So, Vortigern opened the pit, freed the dragons, who fought, with the red dragon killing the white dragon. The boy then stated the red dragon represented the people he ruled and the white dragon represented the Saxons.

This beautiful rustic Welsh Dragon wood sign has been created with words completed in pyrography. It has been upcycled from reclaimed wood. This plaque would make a perfect present for numerous occasions such as an anniversary gift, an Easter gift, a Traditional Gift or a housewarming gift.
The sign is approximately A4 size and approximately 1 cm in depth.
All items to the UK mainland are shipped 1st Class Royal Mail.
For all other areas or countries please contact me for a shipping price.
I am a firm believer in upcycling using reclaimed wood whenever possible. I often recycle the packaging I send out my items in.
I firstly cut a suitable size piece of birch plywood and sanded it to produce a smooth finish. Plywood is wood which has been laminated together to produce a strong stable wood. Thin strips of birch wood laminate were cut to apply an edging to the plywood and were then attached to the sign, to seal the edges of the plywood. This is a common practice within carpentry, thus making it more pleasing to the eye. A template was applied to the wood and transferred using carbon paper. After checking that the image on the wood was correct, then the image was completed by using pyrography (the art of wood burning or fire writing). It was then finished with several coats of Danish Oil, which is food and toy safe, for protection. An attachment is fastened to the back of the sign to allow for hanging.
Thanks for visiting.
