Full description

Baba Yaga House is from the Russian legend of Yaga Baba, a fiercesome witch, or sometimes depicted as an Ogress, lives in a hut on chicken legs. Some tales tell of her travelling in her hut, others in a cauldron or pestel and motar, using a broom of silver birch to sweep away signs of her presence.

She's a complex character, some sources link her to a Slavic Goddess of Nature and Death - of being the link between the world and under world. Her more fiercesome aspects are said to have been introduced after Russia was christainised in the 10th century. An attempt to discredit Slavic paganism and folklore.

She's often portrayed as a fickle creature, and seeking her wisdom as a risky business, because there is a good chance she will cook you and eat you.

Here we have 2 chicken leg huts, approximately 12cm tall. These are created using air dried clay, and the legs are reinforced with wire and paper maiche. Hand painted with artist quality gouache acrylic and varnished to protect the paintwork and clay.

These are indoor ornaments and not weatherproof.

Please choose in options which hut you'd like - one has red fungi, and the other has a red door, or purchase both as a bundle and enjoy a wee discount.
