The Boatman by Suffolk based artist and designer Rik Barwick.

I took part in a 4am painting challenge, finger painting marks on canvas. When I photographed it the reflection and depth reminded me of the sea and immediately a song came into mind The Boatman by Levellers and the lyrics made me think of a hardworking fisherman with an emotional attachment to the sea. It made me think of my own creative journey and being free to do what I love.

I have opted to print this using the highest grade Gicle print which wont fade that is long lasting and is anti-fade. The paper is Hahnemhle Photo Rag which has a delicately smooth finish, almost like felt, it is a great structure for expressing depth and fine detail. It holds ink incredibly for rich tones and striking contrast.

Each print comes specially wrapped as eco friendly as I can.

This is 10cm x 10cm with a small white border.

Framing options are available but I get these to order which increases the distribution time to 8-10 days.

All framed with shatterproof ultra-clear Perspex styrene sheet in place of glass. The Perspex styrene is just as clear as glass if not even clearer.

I’ve always loved the song “The Boatman” by the Levellers. It’s about choosing a path to freedom and doing something you love to be happy. When I created this painting I was at the beginning of a transition period in my career and this was a statement of my future intent.
