Columella: the term for the central spine of a mollusc shell. Shells like these usually spiral to the right (dextral) but some spiral to the left (sinister).This is known as chirality, and this idea of direction, and change of direction, is the inspiration for this design.

Knitting kit, with gorgeously soft Welsh yarn from Cambrian Wool. Make yourself a stylish Columella Shawl, which was a pattern originally published in Making Stories magazine in 2019.
