Dibber for planting bedding, bulbs and vegetable plants. Turned from Camden Ash with inch markings burnt in black lines by friction. This one has a comfortable large bulbous handle which is particularly comfortable, especially for those with sore or arthritic hands, and distributes pressure when pushing into soil whilst planting. It has an undulating flowing grain and feels super smooth in the hand. Use this all year round, bulbs you've had indoors from spring, snowdrops, crocus, daffodil, narcissi - bedding and pot plants, vegetables, seedlings in the greenhouse. A great little tool for the garden...
Measures 27cm long with a diameter at the handle of 5cm.
It's that planting time of year and ash is a good resilient wood for outside use. The wood was brought on a course by a student who was a Tree Officer in Camden Town and he decided to leave the remaining log with me rather than lug it home on the train. It was part of a street tree pruning job that had to be carried out as part of his roadside management plan for the borough. Having seen the grain pattern emerge from the log I knew I had to use the remainder and so turned this piece into the dibber in the picture.
