Early in 2020 a friend of mine gave me two young logs of cherry wood he had coppiced from his fathers garden, The tree was young so the majority of the resulting spoon features the lighter sapwood, which has a stark contrast to the small amount of heartwood seen in the bowl.
After carving the snake around the handle (snakes are a favourite subject of mine to carve, flowing movements in solid/static material) I carbonised the whole spoon to add deeper colour to the outer most parts and create more contrast between the serpent and the handle.The handle is very tactile, almost demanding to be held, and the shape of the spoon is very comfortable for every day use.
