I nearly missed this shot, of 46115 Scots Guardsman, LMS Royal Scot class locomotive cresting the summit of the Settle & Carlisle Railway at Ais Gill. Unknown to us she was running early. Having made it through the snowy weather we arrived at Ais Gill, clouds of billowing steam rising up over the in the near distance, told us we were cutting it close. Not being able to reach the point I'd considered for this photo - a rapid chance of lens was required, throwing on a manual focus 500mm mirror lens and shooting from the car. I was delighted with the result, showing as it does the very crest of the line as it transitions from one side of the summit to the other.
Professionally processed A3 sized silver-halide print on Fuji C-Type Paper.
