I made these georgeous big buttons a few years ago when I was re-upholstering the headboard on my bed. They're 4cm in diameter (about 1.5" in old money ) which is a really generous size for a button. They look a bit bigger in the photo because the velvet is so plush. The fabric I used was upcycled from an old dress, I'd guess it's polyester. I love these, they look so opulent, but I no longer need them (I'm redecorating again), so they're yours for a song. Plus postage and packaging ;-P

If you are looking for extra large buttons in a rich dark purple velvet, these are exactly what you want.
They were created using a strong but lightweight plastic base and covered using upcycled fabric. Size 4cm in diameter.
