I love every aspect of the natural world, from its landscapes and colours to its plants and wildlife - hopefully that is reflected in my work.
The Oak and Poppies wave is inspired by summer walks near my home and in Monmouthshire. As a keen hiker, the rolling countryside in parts of South Wales provides lots of ideas for fused glass pieces. I snap away on my phone as I walk, capturing scenes which I later use back in my workshop.
My intention with this piece is to create a mini scene which can take the viewer into tranquil summer countryside, even if it is cold and snowy outside!

This made-to-order freestanding fused glass Oaks and Poppies fused glass wave captures a snapshot of the summer countryside with its rolling fields I love so much. In an S shaped design, it features my favourite tree the oak, which is hand-painted, poppies in the foreground and a few hand-painted birds against an ethereal sky.
This versatile landscape wave can be placed on windowsill so that when the sun shines through the glass, the colours of the scene are thrown onto the surface in front of it, as shown in the photo below. It can also be displayed against a plain pale wall where its colours can be appreciated in their true brightness.
Making the curve is a lengthy and fiddly process. I start by cutting and layering sheet glass which is then fused together in my kiln overnight. More glass is added before firing again and once it has cooled, the piece is fired for the final time to get its curved shape.
The piece is 24cm wide, 14.5cm high and 4cm deep. Should it need a clean, it is easily wiped over with warm soapy water. Your wave will be posted Signed For and will arrive securely packaged in as much eco-friendly material as possible. Please allow 7 working days for the item to be made and posted.
The Oaks and Poppies wave would make a thoughtful and beautiful gift for those who love the countryside, oak trees or just the great outdoors.
