In celebration of Christmas, or is that Yule? I have made this naturalistic, triangular, Sterling Silver pendant inspired by the traditional Christmas song, "The Holly and The Ivy," with hand carved and engraved holly and ivy leaves enhanced by a little light antiquing and brilliant red carnelian "berries." These are natural stones which are found in the North African desert, turned a vibrant warm red by the action of UV light from the sun. Each leaf has been shaped from thick silver sheet using a jeweller's saw and given it's own special character by anticlastic raising (a pringle shape) in the case of the holly leaf, and repousse in the case of the ivy leaf. I have then engraved the leaf veins freehand and bezeled the edges before antiquing and polishing the leaves to a mirror shine. The stems are forged by hand from sterling silver wire, with mounts for the semi-precious carnelian beads. This pendant measures 40 mm by 40 mm at its longest and widest points and is sold on a sturdy 450 mm sterling silver chain fastened with a bolt ring clasp.
