I visited Copenhagen at Christmas a couple of years ago and there were
loads of these 'Tomte' around in all different sizes and styles.

When my mum gave me her red velvet curtains which were past their
best, and I came across a couple of businesses which gave away
off-cuts (wool and sheepskin), I thought I would try to create my own
version of the Gnome.

I had lots of requests from friends and family to make them one, and
as they fit in with the principles of my business, REFORM, RETHINK,
REUSE, I thought I would make a few more and share them with the
Folksy community.

Full description

This is 'Guy', a Christmas Santa Gnome made from recycled materials.

Guy is a decorative item, not a toy, made from materials that would otherwise be thrown away - he is unique as a result.

Guy comes with a card that tells you his story. He would love to sit on a window bottom, looking out at as each day goes by, or on your mantlepiece keeping an eye on what’s going on. Why not make him your new 'Elf on a Shelf'.... Gnome on a Throne.... Gnome in your Home...?

I've been asked if he is a doorstop - although that wasn't my initial intention when making him - it is possible, although he's only about 200g in weight, so bear that in mind.

Inside he has 100g of rice to give him a more stable base. He measures approx 45cm to the top of his hat, and is about 12cm wide.

Despite being decorative, he fits in with the Fine Fettle principles:

RETHINK: proves that with a bit of creativity recycling materials can produce something entirely different which has a purpose, even if that is purely decorative

REFORM: I've transformed old curtains (from my mum) for his body, sheepskin off-cuts (from Clapham, North Yorkshire) for his beard and wool blanket off-cuts (from Keighley, West Yorkshire) for his hat, into a beautiful decorative item.

REUSE: not only do I use recycled materials on the outside, but also on the inside. The inner stuffing is my collection of material off-cuts which would otherwise be thrown away.
