Saw a similar item for sale in a national home decor store. It was all machine made and looked flimsy and I wondered if I could make the same item by hand using what spare wood/rope/paint I had.
The result is a more sturdy shelf unit and one, because it is hand made, that is not ‘machine perfect’ which adds to its quirkiness and uniqueness as a ‘one off’ item.
In the hope of adding to its charm most of the timber is only lightly sanded down, the end grain, for example, has been left to look ‘weather worn’.
A piece of rope has been stapled at the back and top to provide an attachment for display purposes.

Spare pieces of timber and rope repurposed into a wall unit with three shelves for the enthusiast who enjoys all things nautical.
The base of the boat is tongue and groove, the sides are plywood and the shelving is pallet wood. The twelve inch long oars I carved from a piece of three inch square timber.
It has been painted using duck egg blue and white emulsion which has then been covered with a layer of furniture wax.
The item measures 22 inches in height x 18 inches at its widest x 6 inches deep and weighs approximately 8lbs.
