Full description
The stealth Hippy Firesteel and striker set is unique to stealth hippy bushcraft.
Firesteels are great little items, they are solid, waterproof and very reliable. But they do have a number of small faults.
They tend to snap a long time before they are fully used.
And when striking using your precious bushcraft knife, they leave nasty magnesium burns all over the blade.
By laying the ferrorod itself into a wooden channel, it gets support from the wood, which prevents it from snapping prematurely.
The striker itself has a number of features:
1: A port on the side forces the shower of sparks into a narrow beam, making them more efficient and accurate
2: A groove on the side allows you to position a fluffed up jute candle, so it lights like a match in your hand
3: The rounded end doubles as a tinder prep tool, allowing you to scrape birch bark and others tinder into a powder
4: Finally, once your firesteel has worn level with the wooden handle, switch the the rounded end and scrape the channel clean.
Once used, simply scrape the channel clean and glue another steel into the handle.
unless otherwise stated all timbers used are harvested personally from wind damaged trees or coppicing projects.
