Large, highly textured, aerated terracotta bowls on hanging plaited strings to hang indoors with beautiful orchids inside them.

To make the bowl, sections of rolled out clay had seashells, seed heads, string, cork insulation and fabrics rolled into it, to create a variety of interesting natural textures. The bowl was then formed by rejoining ripped up small segments of the textured clay, inside a bowl mould, but leaving gaps for aeration. Extra holes were cut where necessary to create balance, and the top of the bowl was left randomly jagged and rolled over with a fir cone for a natural rough textured feature.

The pots are unglazed and designed so that water will naturally drain through them, should they get wet, so best to water the plants over a container until they've stopped dripping!

Hanging strings (natural sisal or hemp string) can be altered to accommodate the height you need for your plant.

Precious orchids need light and air to reach their roots, so I was inspired to make these aerated hanging bowls, which are perfect as planters for them. I love the warm, earthy colour of terracotta clay, which would enhance any plant that sits with in it.
