Fred loves turning and carving wood. This project was inspired by a gift he gave our son 40 years ago.It has remained on our mantle piece to this day.
Returning to making a figurine was fun and stretched his imagination.
He recruited Ann to paint his handiwork and now she has grown attached to the characters he produced.

Full description
Colonel Percival Periwinkle is a unique turned and carved wooden soldier with a colourfully painted green uniform and a helmet with gold tip. His jointed arms can hold a flag and a sword. He has the mechanism to be a nutcracker but easier methods are recommended.
His structure is turned wood and strong but he is not designed to be a toy.
His height is 15.5cm and his width 11.5cm
He is mounted on a turned polished oak plinth.
He would make an excellent talking point in a living room or office desk.
His connection with the Hoffmann story of the Soldier and the Mouse King, based on Christmas Eve, which was made into a ballet, with music by Tchaikovsky, make him a suitable Christmas decoration.
The original Nutcracker Soldiers were German. In the German tradition they were symbols of Good Luck. The figurines were said to protect the house against evil.
Percival has a character that just grows on you. He looks in command but his fighting days are in the past. The flag he carries is the Welsh Dragon.
He can be adapted to carry the flag of the any Nation.
He would make an interesting unique Christmas gift for a gentleman who likes a desk ornament, or for a lady, given as a Good Luck symbol.
