During the lockdown period, in common with many artists, I went back to working in a sketchbook more regularly. This series of dishes grew directly from that work when I started to experiment with ways to replicate the colours and markmaking on glass.

I create these dishes from layers of coloured glass powder and clear glass fused together in my kiln. I then smooth and shape the edges of the dish before firing it again into the bowl shape. Each kiln firing typically takes up to 24 hours.

Full description

A decorative art glass dish in warm golden yellow. I stepped away from the beach for the inspiration for this bowl and looked at the silver birch trees, their bark and the colour of their leaves in the autumn. Even so, it's not difficult to see golden sands in the colours and patterns of this little plate!

This dish is around 13cm (5") square and the top surface is gorgeously tactile matte glass - you won't be able to resist stroking it! The smooth organic edges of the dish ripple slightly, following the pattern in the glass - and underneath, a 'secret' - a highly polished base.

The bowl is perfect for holding a small collection of shells or beach treasures, but you may not want to cover up the beautiful surface by putting anything in it at all.
